My love for the national parks and nature has always been a part of me. Also has been my love of art. In 2015 I started working on a series of national park illustrations. First it was the gray wolf of Yellowstone, then Zion National Park, Arches, Old Faithful. I just kept going. My enthusiasm grew. I found myself traveling to many of these parks—ostensibly to draw and find inspiration—but in the process, I started to find myself..
The Antiquities Act of 1906 has now been threatened. If I can draw additional attention to the call for preservation, every moment spent meticulously drawing will be worth it.
Too, our national parks are often taken for granted. We think of them in passing, or as one of many vacation options—should we ride rollercoasters or visit Yellowstone this summer? They do not exist solely for our enjoyment or consumption, but our respect and care. They predated us and will survive us. We are their caretakers, they are our origins. I hope that my artwork kindles a fresh look at their beauty.
